Retired on May 15, 2006 as an art instructor at Florida Community
College at Jacksonville (FCCJ), South Campus, Jacksonville, FL 32246, The college
website of FCCJ is : http://www.fccj.org.
For 38 years he was a teacher of painting, sculpture and design in the Visual
Arts Dept. He developed the sculpture program at FCCJ.

A graduate of Florida State
University with a master’s degree in art. Derby has also studied art
at Rhode Island School of Design, University of Georgia, University of
Tennessee, and Jacksonville University and in Cortona, Italy. He has
studied sculpture in Italy and Mexico.

A past president of the
Jacksonville Jaycees.

of the book, Jokes,
Riddles and Wisdom, the best collection ever, by Roger Kuder.

Derby's own sculptures have
been on display at numerous art shows around Jacksonville, FL.

Derby once donated a miniature elephant sculpture
to Bob Hope, and that sculpture was added to Mr. Hope's permanent collection
until his death in 2003 and is currently on display at the Library of
Congress, along with other artifacts of Mr. Hope.

newsletter) and the FCCJ catalogue.

Derby's latest commission
was
to produce a sculpture of a runner. This sculpture was unveiled March 1,
2002 and now resides in front of
North Florida's largest hotel, the Hyatt Regency Jacksonville Riverfront
(formerly the Adams Mark) hotel in downtown Jacksonville
on the Northbank Riverwalk.
